A successful anniversary celebration with a large number of visitors.
On 13 September, we celebrated 40 years of sister cities and 30 years of regional cooperation in the beautiful setting of the Orangerie in Hellbrunn. Among the 90 visitors were our guests Afesso Ogenga and Violet Shaku, from our partner organisation CIP from Singida. In an exciting presentation, they reported on the support provided to the girls in Singida. A film was produced especially for the event – filmed in Singida by Violet Shaku and created in Salzburg by Alex Hoerner. The film tells the story of Zuleikha, a girl in Singida, who goes to great lengths to be able to attend school. Now she is one of the 80 girls who have moved into the new girls’ hostel.
The anniversary celebration was attended by Tanzanian Ambassador Naimi Hamza Aziz from Vienna, representatives from politics and the city and state administration. Founding members and (former) employees and board members of the organisation were also present. As well as long-standing supporters, sponsors and donors. Detlef Fehrmann and Berni Wiemann from the association Straßenkinder Tansania e.V. travelled from Lüneburger Heide in northern Germany to attend. There has been a co-operation for the benefit of the Upendo Home for years, which has been expanded in recent years – now there was a meeting in Salzburg for the first time.
Thanks go to the women’s quartet from the group ‘Auftakt – die bessere Hälfte’, who provided the musical backdrop for the evening, and to everyone who contributed to the success of the evening.
Thank you all for being there!
